Happy New Year!

Fantasy Christmas Comic page 8
Fantasy Christmas Comic page 8

Happy New Year everyone who takes a look at this website! There has not been any activity here for ages, that doesn’t mean I’ve not been working. A lot of my creation is concept art for Crooked Dice Games’ Colony 87 game which is still in its early days.

Though I did finish the next page of my Fantasy Christmas Comic. Here, the adventurers who acquired miss-sold magic items have followed the creator of these objects; a Liche Zann-Tarr the Undying, to his mountain lair in the far North. They defeated his Moon Troll and his undead minions and are chasing him as he flees.

This was created from a physical pencil layout, scanned in and inked, coloured and lettered in Clip Studio.

Happy New Year!

Here’s a new page (page 7) of my 10-page Christmas comic I hadn’t had time to finish from a while back. This page I pencilled, then inked on paper and painted the art in Clip/Manga Studio.

As I’d drawn and scanned all pages in pencils, written the story with all it’s amusing (to me anyway!) festive references myself I felt it needed finishing off. It’s less painterly than the first few pages, but they took longer to create (in Painter).

My 2018 Christmas Card

This is my Christmas card for 2018, along with the model sheet I often do for comic strips. The card was all digitally drawn and inked in Clip (Manga) Studio.

I based the scene of the snowman (who I’ve called Snowpocalypse) on Jack Kirby’s cover for The Mighty Thor Marvel Treasury Edition from 1976.

Sunken World Raktos Sorceress

I’ve finally got round to putting more of my artwork on this website, I’m sorry it’s been so long!
I always have a few projects on the go; here are some more Sunken world images: a Sunken World character I created a couple of years ago; one of those images I needed a little bit of free time to finish off.

She’s a Raktos, (Raktos and Yrdin) a race of horn-headed humanoids who are rumoured to be half-demonic and they do little to dispel that rumour. Many of them do possess magical powers so I drew a couple of flames on her fingertips. She is accompanying the warrior who I posted a while back on my Facebook Page:

I’ve ideas for the rest of this adventuring group which I shall post next time.

Happy Hallowe’en!

A link from my Facebook page (do go look and like if you haven’t already, apologies if you have!) These are my previous doodles of my ‘Niche Comics monster’ along with various other ideas I was working on. The first was a very rough sketch of an idea I had last year for a Hallowe’en version of the character (designed by Glen Stone) for the logo of the comic shop here in Huntingdon. This has become the main source of my Mike Mignola related comics too.

Here’s a brief bit of my history with Mike Mignola’s astounding creations. It was way back in the late 1990’s when I was in Antwerp on an Erasmus scholarship and in the Mekanik Strip Comic Shop (which I thoroughly recommend a visit to, if you’re ever in Antwerp Mekanik Strip) with some Belgian Illustration students who were tolerating my English awkwardness. One of whom (he had a single dreadlock but I can’t remember his name) said; “Buy this, the artwork is beautiful” about an issue of Wake The Devil. And ever since that day (thanks to that good fellow) I’ve been totally hooked and eagerly buy any comic Mike Mignola has been involved with.

I’ve never attempted an illustration of someone else’s comic-book character before (I’ve sketched them but never got further) so I was quite daunted by this, especially as it was someone as famous as Mike Mignola. After I’d got into it I really enjoyed the process, though it made me even more in awe of his work (and his colourist Dave Stewart too). As I’ve been recently learning how to use the program this was done entirely with Manga Studio.

This is fan art, Hellboy copyright Mike Mignola 2016.
